Deeds of release of Quabbin Reservoir cemetery plots, 1930-1985, bulk 1930-1931.

The Metropolitan District Water Supply Commission was created for the purpose of extending and increasing the water supply to the Massachusetts metropolitan water system (St 1926, c 375). The commission was authorized to purchase or take land in the watersheds of the Swift and Ware rivers to develop the Quabbin Reservoir. This included disinterment, transfer, and reburial from cemeteries in the areas to be flooded to the Quabbin Park Cemetery and other locations. Deeds of release are the legal transfer of cemetery plots by the owners to the commission, and the authorization for removal and transfer to the new location.
